€C
\\ HISTORY JUL U 8 1019
y Dustin Cza la
p Receive,)
Department of Natural Resources EiVED
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver,CO 80203 JULaftON OF
 2 ZQQ
Re: Birdseye Pit, File No. M-2019-034(HC 476196) IWININdAtiD TION
E7Y
Dear Mr. Czapla:
We received correspondence concerning Consideration of 112c Construction Materials Reclamation Permit
for the above project on June 27, 2019 requesting our comment under the State Register of Historic Places
Act(CRS 24-80-1 et seq.) for the above referenced project.
A search of our database indicates that a portion of the permit area was included within the multiple cultural
resource surveys including 1,K.1,M.NR6(Arkansas River Rocks Placement in River for Water Control),
LK.LM.R30(Inventory of the High County "Tours Snowmobile Tours in Birdseye Gulch),and
LK.LM.NR12 (Neville Road Right-of-Way). These surveys identified multiple cultural resources, including
an officially eligible historic property and a supporting segment of the said linear resource and a needs data
site. These are 51-K.1912.1 (Birds Eye and Leadville Toll Road)determined officially eligible, 51-K.1912.3
(a supporting segment),and 5I.K.2214.1 as needs data. However, no National or State Register listed
properties were previously identified. Please note, as most of Colorado has not been inventoried for cultural
resources, our files contain incomplete information. Consequently, there is the possibility that as yet
unidentified cultural resources exist within the proposed permit area. The requirements under CRS 24-80
part 13 apply and must be followed if human remains are discovered during ground disturbing activities.
Please note that our search was limited to the legal description as provided in the notice for the potential
permit for Schofield Excavation, Inc.
If we may be of further assistance, please contact Jason O'Brien, Section 106 Compliance Manager, at(303)
866-2673 or Jason.obrien@state.co.us.
Sincerely,
teve Turn r,Al
State Historic ation Officer
History • • .•• 1200 Broadway, Denver, • 80203 • • • .•• • •
