Proiect-Written notification—Mill Tailings Release—April 4,2018
Dear Mr. Cazier:
In accordance with Rule 8, Section 8.2.3 of the Mineral Rules And Regulations of the Colorado Mined
Land Reclamation Board For Hard Rock, Metal, And Designated Mining Operations (Rules), the
Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mining Company(CC&V) hereby provides the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety(DRMS) with a formal report regarding the mill tailings release which occurred at the
9,025 elevation of the Cresson Pit. The release occurred at approximately 6:30 pm on April 4, 2018.
The following points address the requirements of Rule 8, section 8.2.3:
a. Actions taken to respond to and correct the emergency situation or condition
• A small amount of tailings material appears to have frozen to the bed of a haul truck, which
was then used to transport stemming material. Once the stemming material was dumped,
approximately one cubic yard of the tailings material left the bed of the haul truck(see Photo
1). Approximately two cubic yards of the tailings and stemming material was immediately
removed and transported to VLF 2.
b. Any known or adverse impacts to human health, property or the environment
No impacts to human health or the environment were observed or are expected to occur due to
the material type, location of release, and the prompt clean up.
