DESERADO MINE
BLUE MOUNTAIN ENERGY
3607 County Rd. 65
Rangely, CO 81648
(970)675-4300
fax (970)675-4399 O ,
February 22, 2018 ;
Mr. Brock Bowles
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Minor Revision #173 — Geotechnical Investigations for future Refuse Area.
Dear Brock:
Enclosed is minor revision (MR -173) to allow geotechnical test coring within the area outlined on Map
161. The exact location of the test cores will depend on the results of each prior test core but are
projected to be representative of what is shown on Map 161. It is our intention to minimize disturbance
to the point that the native site will recover rapidly on their own. No pad construction will be needed.
Only limited brush cutting is anticipated.
Cores will be about 3.5" in diameter and extend to bedrock. The deepest penetration is expected to be
around 60 feet with a conservative maximum average of 30 feet. All core holes will be backfilled with
cuttings shortly following completion.
Refuse Area and hydrologic designs will be submitted in the near future.
The area of interest was recently surveyed for cultural resources. No cultural resources were recorded that
could potentially be adversely impacted by this project (GRI Project No. 2012-88, 20 December 2012).
The area has a low probability of containing the sensitive species debris milkvetch. My observations
indicate that little to no potential habitat exists in this area. Furthermore, the geotechnical investigation is
focused on the strengths of the deeper soils in the alluvium and colluvium away from the thin soiled
habitat of this species.
We hope to mobilize the equipment in early March once approvals are received.
If you have any further questions please contact me at 970-675-4322.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Scott Wanstedt
Environmental Engineer
swanstedt n,deserado.com
enc:
cc: Jeff Dubbert
Jennifer Maiolo — BLM
