The TDL is designated as an environmental protection
facility in Henderson's Environmental Protection Plan. The release is believed to have begun at
approximately 8:OOAM the morning of September 14, 2017 and was discovered at approximately 9:OOAM.
The TDL was locked out at the time of the incident to perform the annual drop tower inspection. Due to
the inspection, water was diverted through the ECO. The ECO had not been used within the last year up
until this incident. The inspection shows that a seal on one of the RCP joints had deteriorated over the
time of non-use. Flows were diverted back to the TDL and the ECO is being repaired. During the two-hour
window, approximately 600 gallons of process water was released.
(a) After discovering the issue, the pond operator immediately had the flow in the ECO
diverted back to the TDL, which stopped the flow from the release point within a short
time.
(b) Mill process water flow did not adversely impact human health, property or the
environment. All material associated with this event flowed along the path of the ECO.
The material stopped prior to crossing the county road, but otherwise would have
continued under the road and ultimately into the tailings impoundment.
(c) The contact person for this event is:
Amber Parmet
19302 County Road 3,
Parshall, CO 80468
Phone: 720-942-3480
aparmet(a)fmi.com
