Russell
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Environmental Protection Specialist
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Russell,
The Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has reviewed your request for Lomments regarding
wildlife impacts from the permitting of the Rafert Pit (Permit No. M-2004-052-CN01) at the following
location:
- SE '/4 Section 33, Township 8N, Range 43W.
A site visit to the location was conducted and it has been determined that there will be no significant
impacts to local wildlife species or wildlife habitats. No endangered wildlife species are known to
inhabit that location.
If during construction, wildlife species, dens or nests are encountered we recommend that you contact
the local District Wildlife Manager or a Colorado Parks and Wildlife Office as soon as possible to avoid
the accidental take of that species. CPW also recommends that proper measures be taken to prevent
the establishment and spread of noxious weeds during the life of the gravel mine. When the mine is no
longer in use we recommend that you contact the local Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS)
field office for suggestions regarding seed mixes and proper re-vegetation methodologies.
On behalf of CPW, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on these
projects. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call District Wildlife Manager Josh
Melby at (970) 630-4415.
Sincerely,
Todd Schmidt
Area Wildlife Manager - Area 3
Colorado Parks and Wildlife
cc: Mark Leslie, Josh Melby
of 0
c9
Bob D.Broscheid,Director,Colorado Parks and Wildlife•Parks and Wildlife Commission:Robert W.Bray,Chair.Chris Castilian,Vice Chair i ye:oi
Jeanne Home,secretary•John Howard,Jr.•Bill Kane•Dale Pizel•James Pnbyl•James Vigil•Dean Wingfield•Michelle Zimmerman•Alex Zipp
*r876%
