The United States Forest Service (USFS) has expressed concerns with the
proposed decision to approve the Bowie #2 SL -1 bond release application. Specifically, the
USFS is concerned with noxious weed control activities and areas that do not appear to meet the
10 -year revegctation responsibility period requirement.
Additional time beyond the standard 30 -day continent period is necessary in order to address the
USFS concerns pertaining to reclamation at the Bowie 42 Mine. OSMRE is withholding its
concurrence and requesting that your office coordinate with USFS to ensure valid concerns are
addressed prior to releasing the permittee from liability for this reclamation. Please contact
Daniel Gray at degray@ fs.fed.us or (970) 527-4131 to discuss these concerns.
Thank you and your staff for coordinating this Federal mine bond release action through the
DFD. Please direct any questions concerning this action to Christine Belka, Senior Regulatory
Program Specialist at cbelkaLi),OSMRE.gov or (303) 293-5020.
Sincerely,
Alan Boehms, Chief
Denver Field Branch
Attachment
Ce: Bill Bear, Bowie Resources, LLC
