STATE OF
u STATE DO Scott-DNR, Eric <eric.scott@state.co.us>
COLO
Swan River Habitat Restoration
2 messages
Rudolph -CDPHE, Mark <mark.rudolph@state.co.us> Wed, Jul 20, 2016 at 5:49 PM
To: "Lorch, 2930 Brian" <BrianL@co.summit.co.us>, "Graves, 2930 Jeff" <Jeff.Graves@state.co.us>, Eric Scott - DNR
<eric.scott@state.co.us>, "Fagen, Elizabeth" <Fagen.Elizabeth@epa.gov>
Brian, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have been in and out of cell service let alone not having email.
Based on our conversation, you all encountered significant tailings when cutting away along the Swan River area. These
tailings are saturated and showed no indication of impacted water seepage nor has your water quality monitoring
indicated any impacted reaches of stream in this area. In lieu of chasing the tailings which could be extensive, your
proposal that was initially agreed upon by DRMS Active and Minerals program staff, seems sound. Leaving these
tailings in place and placing an impermeable or semi impermeable cover over them and basing the realigned stream
channel on top of this is the best alternative from the sound of it. Excavation of thse tailings could cause a significant
impact to the stream during the construction and remobilized metals in the River as well as a significant savings of cost
to the County. Please do not hesitate in calling or emailing with any questions
thanks
Mark
Mark Rudolph
Superfund, Brownfield's and Voluntary Cleanup
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
4300 Cherry Creek Drive South
Denver, Colorado 80246
mark.rudolph@state.co.us
office-303-692-3311
fax -303-759-5355
cell -303-916-2179
Fagen, Elizabeth <Fagen.Elizabeth@epa.gov> Wed, Jul 27, 2016 at 11:57 AM
To: "Rudolph -CDPHE, Mark" <mark.rudolph@state.co.us>, "Lorch, 2930 Brian" <BrianL@co.summit.co.us>,
"jeff.graves@state.co.us" <jeff.graves@state.co.us>, Eric Scott - DNR<eric.scott@state.co.us>
Hi all,
I have reviewed river realignment and mitigation plan that Brian provided.
