Box 1470
Rifle, CO 81650
Re: AMSO RD&D Project - Phase 1, N01 No. P-2008-046, Request to Eliminate Three Year Post -
Operational Water Monitoring Approval.
Dear Mr. Saubastre,
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) has reviewed the request to eliminate three
years of post - operation water monitoring at the AMSO RDBD site. AMSO made three attempts during
2012 (4 days) and 2013 (15 days) with electric heaters to initiate the retorting and pyrolysis of the
targeted oil shale. All attempts failed and no heating of the oil shale at the temperature required to
pyrolize the oil shale occurred.
Due to temperatures around the production wells never reaching levels required to produce oil no
adverse impacts occurred to the ground water. Therefore, the request to eliminate the three year post
- operational water monitoring is approved.
If you need additional information,
Safety, Grand Junction Field Office
telephone no. 970.241.2042.
Sincerely,
Travis Marshall
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Paul Daggett
BLM - White River Field Office
220 East Market Street
Meeker, CO 81641
Bill Merrill
Western Water and Land
743 Horizon Court, Suite 330
Grand Junction, CO 81506
please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501,
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http://mining.state.co.us
John W.
