USDAUnited States Forest Canyon Lakes Ranger District 2150 Centre Avenue,Building E
— Department of Service Fort Collins,CO 80526
— Agriculture 970-295-6710
TDD: 970-295-6794
FAX: 970-295-6795
File Code: 2810
Date: April 19, 2016
GRE
2091 E Murray Holladay Road#22E
Salt Lake City, UT 84117
Dear GRE:
I am in receipt of your NOI for adit access to CMC 287923, in T9N, R73W, Section 29, within
Larimer County. It appears from your photos of the adit that an Abandoned Mine Land (AML)
safety feature including a bat friendly gate has been installed on the mining claim.
The U.S. Forest Service (FS) is engaged in an on-going effort to mitigate the dangers posed by
Abandoned Mine Land (AML) features on National Forest System land. These features include
tunnels, adits, shafts, tailings ponds, rock dumps, mill sites and other associated mining features.
Mitigation of AML safety hazards may include such activities as placement of barriers, signing,
removal of hazardous structures or equipment, backfilling or in some cases erecting a bat-
friendly gate or grates to close open adits and shafts.
Since you are proposing to open the adit up to exploration, you will need to explain how safety
hazards will be addressed. This should take the form of a proposed plan of operations (attached)
in accordance with regulations contained in 36 CFR 228, Subpart A. The plan should describe
your proposed use of the facilities in question, and the methods you will use to protect public
safety, such as, how will you secure the gate to prevent the general public from entering the adit.
A reclamation bond may be required to cover reinstatement of the existing closure facilities upon
termination of your exploration activities.
By working together I believe that we can protect the public from the hazards which may be
present on your claim. If you have any questions or would like additional information you may
contact Sue Greenley, Lands and Mineral Staff on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District at 970-295-
6735 or sreenley a,fs.fed.us or Patti Turecek, Lands and Minerals Program Manager at 970-295-
6656 or pturecekL&fs.fed.us.
Sincerely,
Is/Grant D.
