DESERADO MINE
BLUE MOUNTAIN ENERGY
3607 County Rd. 65
Rangely, CO 81648
(970)675-4300
fax (970)675-4399
October 13, 2015
Mr. Clayton Wein
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RECEIVED
OCT 19 2015
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MINING & SAFETY
RE: Minor Revision #166 — SDH -3 (D -Seam) Dewatering and Treatment System Expansion —
response to comments.
Dear Clayton:
Enclosed are the revised pages for MR -166. Our response to your comments areas follows:
1. The elevations and contour intervals have been added to the maps per your request.
2. A "title" was added to the single cross section with a cross section position on Map 140.
3. North arrows were added to the maps per your request. In any of BME's maps without north
arrows it can be assumed that up is north.
4. A text description describing the SedCAD model is included per your request. If you need
additional help interpreting the model please give me a call.
5. Structure #5 is the upper pond receiving the least runoff and the least flow. Structure #1 is the
lowest pond and flow is controlled through the pipe primary spillway, unlike the other two ponds
which are open channels. This pipe restricts flows and creates more lag in the model. The
significantly higher inflows to Structure #1 is also greatly influenced by SWS #4 requiring greater
inflows to generate the simulated 350 gpm of mine water discharge through the pipe.
6. I cannot explain the discrepancy but can tell you the proposed Map 140 elevations for the existing
structure and design area were surveyed this year buy a certified public land surveyor who is also
the P.E. who did the design and stamped the drawings. I wouldn't get too bent out of shape over
the discrepancy in elevations since the relative elevations appear reasonably accurate for the
purpose of the design and what is currently proposed is bases off of a current survey.
If you have any further questions please contact me at 970-675-4322.
Sincerely,
Scott Wanstedt
Environmental Engineer
swanstedt u.deserado.com
enc:
cc: Jeff Dubbert
