s r~
iiiiiiiiiiiniiiiii
999
• 4_4 Reclamation
e overa o jective of the reclamation plan is to protect those lands affected by the
project development from erosion and to restore those lands to a beneficial use.
Post-mining land use will be cropland, pasturel wildlife habitat and rangeland/wildlife
habitat. There will be no change of the present county zoning classification, which is
Agriculture/PUD.
The reclamation effort for the project was conducted in one single phase:
All extraneous material and equipment was removed from the project site.
The portal openings were closed and sealed in accordance with Figures 4.4-1
and 4.4-2. This program has been approved by the Division and the Mine Safety
and Health Administration.
Certain sections of the roads were removed and topsoil with a minimum
thickness of 16 inches was distributed over the disturbed areas. The remaining
sections of the access roads were left in their present condition to provide
permanent access to the lands following the completion of the reclamation. All
roads retained as permanent are reclassified as light-use roads. The secondary
• road, which served as access to portal No. 2, was covered with topsoil and
seeded with pastureland seed mix. A letter from the landowner requesting that
certain light use roads be permanently retained is located in Exhibit 4.7-7.
Culverts under the road intersections, which remain, were left in place (culverts
C-2 and C-6). Those under road intersections, which were reclaimed, were
removed.
The disturbed areas, after re-contouring and placement of topsoil, were
vegetated with a seed mix beneficial to livestock and wildlife.

NCIG -Coal Ridge No. 1 4-53 5/01
