0
August 15, 2015
RECEIVED
AUG 17 2015
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION,
MINING AND SAFETY
Mr. Tyler O'Donnell
Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215tk
' /
Denver, CO 80203 1V
A;6L
Re: Permit Number M-1999-034 — Cooley Reservoir & Fulton Wildlife Area AGG REGATE
Technical. Revision Request
INDUSTRIES
Dear Tyler:
Aggregate Industries (AI) submits this letter in response to the Division's report of its June 2,
2015 monitoring inspection of the above -referenced operation. The corrective action required
was to implement the existing weed control plan or update the weed control plan for the Cooley
site by August 19, 2015. Due to potential safety hazards of having weed control activities
conducted at the site while equipment and haul trucks were operating in the area to address river
breach repairs as required by the Division in its report for July 2 and July 9, 2015 inspections, the
weed control activities have not yet been conducted. The immediate river breach repairs
concerns were completed late this week and the owner of the site, City of Thornton, will now
schedule to have the site mowed to address the weed concerns; however, it is unlikely that the
weed control activity will be completed by August 19.
As the corrective action states that either the current weed control plan be implemented or an
updated plan be submitted by August 19, Al is submitting this letter as a technical revision
request. The Division required that any revision to the exiting weed control plan should be
updated in consultation with the county extension agency or weed control district. The Cooley
Reservoir site is located within the City limits of Thornton and will be managed in accordance
with the City's weed control code (Sec. 38-444. Weeds and brush), a copy of which is enclosed.
Furthermore, as the Cooley site is a reservoir owned and operated by City of Thornton, the weed
control plan will conform with the City's Water Resources and Public Works requirements for
weed control which requires mechanical means of control rather than chemical control since the
reservoir is a City water source and chemical control has the potential to impact the City's water
quality standards
This technical revision request is therefore provided to update the Cooley Reservoir weed control
plan in accordance with City of Thornton code and directives. Enclosed is a check in the amount
of $216.00 for the required technical revision fee.
Very truly yours,
Connie N.
