Q
ASPHALT
SPECIALTIES CO.
10100 Dallas St
June 10, 2015
Mr. Tyler O'Donnell
• Henderson, CO 80640 • (303) 289-8555 • Fax: (720) 289-7707
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Div. of Mining, Reclamation and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
JUN 17 U15
0I11MINING AND SWETYY
RE: Final Engineering eering Report for Speer Perimeter Pit Drain DRMS Permit No. M-1983-176 TR -2
Dear Mr. O'Donnell:
Per the requirements of the approved TR -2 in November 2014, please accept the enclosed final
engineering report for the construction of Phase I of the French Drain along Brighton Rd. for the
referenced DRMS mine site.
As you know, I have been closely monitoring the upgradient monitoring wells along Brighton Rd. for
this site (MW3-AS and MH -9) for any upward fluctuation of the groundwater levels upgradient from
the newly constructed French Drain. There have been no dramatic upward fluctuations for almost
exactly one month (5-11-15 thru 6-8-15) and water levels have held between 14.0' and 14.4' below the
top of casing ("TOC") even though we have had this tremendous amount for rainfall in the area and
the ground is saturated. I have also been in contact with both Levi Kirby and Lyle Gurley on the east
side of Brighton Rd. and who both have structures below grade (a basement area and a well vault) and
although the groundwater has risen, no pumping has been required and no injury to these structures
has occurred. This tells me that indeed the drain is working as designed and is keeping the
groundwater "at bay" in the areas of concern even in these worst of possible groundwater conditions.
Please contact me if there are any questions or concerns you may have with this submittal for the
referenced operation.
Sincerely,
Rob Laird
Resource Manager AF & Report
✓ VIOLATIONS: MV 2009 016
cc: file
