PFARCE
April 27, 2015
RECEIVED
SAY n 1 2015
-rj, DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Attn: Peter Hays
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Hays, - rR -0I/..
Please accept this letter and enclosed reclamation recommendation study as Lafarge's request for
a Technical Revision to the Nelson Pit (File Number M- 1974 -070).
Due to the higher levels of soil salinity found at the Nelson Pit, Lafarge is requesting a revision
to the approved seed mix. Lafarge is proposing a more salt tolerant mix that will create better
growing conditions and a better likelihood of vegetation success. The seed mix to be used will be
a moderately salt tolerant seed mix and the application rates in pounds of pure live seed per acres
are as follows:
Common Name
I Scientific Name
PL
acre
acre
ft
ft
% of Mix
Alkali
Alkali grass
Puccinelliadistans
(_ _ ) _
0.4
12.0
_
Slender
Elymus
--20%
Wheatgrass
trach caulus
3.3
12.0_
20%
Bottlebrush
Elymus elymoides
S uirreltail
2.7
1_2.0
20%
Newhy
v_
_
Hybrid wheatgrass
Saltlander
2.1
6.0
10%
Sporobolus
Sand Dropseed
_
cryptandrus
0.0
6.0
10%
Prairie
Calamovilfa
Sandreed
longifolia
1.0
6.0
10%
Basin WiIdrye
Elymus cinereus
2.0
6.0
10%
ITotal
--
11.6
60.0
100%
✓ AF & Report
missing 2015 Fee
✓ No Violations
The soil will be ripped and the seed will be drill seeded where possible and broadcast seed in
areas that are difficult to access.
In conjunction with these seed treatments, Lafarge plans regular mowing and spraying of the site
to control less noxious weeds on the site. Mowing and spraying are generally most effective
when done in the spring and fall seasons. Lafarge plans to schedule these activities for these
times and will add additional treatments when needed throughout the year.
LAFARGE NORTH AMERICA
8700 Bryn Mawr Ave, Ste 300
Chicago, IL 60631
