The small drainage on the immediate southeast side of Pond 19 contains a
flume that is one of three monitoring points listed in Amendment N0. 10 for monitoring Grassy
Valley surface flow. Mining has now progressed to within + 100 feet of the flume. Any flow
that formerly entered Pond 19 and potentially exfiltrated from the pond down that drainage will
now enter the WHEX mining area. CC &V therefore proposes to remove the flume before it is
lost in the mining process, and remove the quarterly sampling requirement for the Grassy Valley
drainage. Flow in the upper Grassy Valley stream (GV -01) has been dry since the last flow was
documented on June 2, 2009.
Following approval the Division of Mining, Reclamation and Safety, monitoring will cease and
the flume will be removed as soon as winter conditions subside and the work is feasible.
Please contact me at (719)- 689 -4055 should you have questions or wish to discuss this request
for a technical revision.
Sincerely,
Timm Comer
Manager, Environmental Resources
