IV ,/ /)
iiQ S,bmI 1
40586 Co. Rd. 21
Haxtun, CO 80731
December 22, 2014
Mr. Elliott Russell
Environment Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Reese -Logan Sand & Gravel Pit (M- 1996 -050)
Technical Revision
Dear Mr. Russell:
rR0/
REC77" _`
`/DEC 3 0 2014
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
Your extension approval dated November 26, 2014 cites the following:
PROBLEMIPOSSIBLE VIOLATION: Problem: Failure to follow approved
reclamation plan, or current reclamation plan needs to be updated and clarified pursuant
to CRS 34- 32.5 -116 (1). The operator must follow approved reclamation plan or provide
sufficient information to describe or identify how the operator intends to conduct
reclamation.
CORRECTION ACTIONS: The operator shall submit a Technical Revision, with the
required $216 revision fee, to update and clarify the current approved reclamation plan to
reflect existing and proposed activities by the corrective action date. Please see the
inspection report narrative for specific requirements needed in the TR. This letter will
provide a Technical Revision for reclamation of the Reese -Logan Sand & Gravel pit.
Updated Reese -Logan Sand & Gravel Pit Reclamation Plan
The ultimate development of the Reese -Logan Sand & Gravel Pit will create a pond
surrounded by gravel roads currently used in the operation. When mining is completed,
the remaining pond and its surrounding seeded area will be the final reclaimed product.
The maximum gradient of the pond slopes will be 2H:1 V.
There will be a minimal shoreline outside the pond. This shoreline will be a maximum
gradient of 3H:1 V and will end when it folds into the existing roadway that surrounds the
mined area. The landowner intends to keep the surrounding roadways in place (see
signed and notarized letter). The only area to be seeded is that described as the shoreline
and one area used for stockpiles. Excess overburden will be evenly applied to these
areas. Stockpiled topsoil will also be evenly layered to attain the maximum slope.
Any areas over - compacted will be broken up and tilled to provide a proper seedbed.
6L,
