COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
November 21, 2014
Ray Lazuk
Climax Molybdenum Company
Highway 91, Fremont Pass
Climax, CO 80429
Re: Request to Reduce Groundwater Monitoring Frequency, M 1977 -493
Mr. Lazuk:
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has reviewed the Robinson Seep Investigation — 2014 Results
submitted by Climax to the Division on November 18, 2014. This submittal is the second part of a two year
groundwater characterization effort to develop a further understanding of the conditions between Robinson Lake and
Eagle Park Reservoir in addition to the effectiveness of the groundwater cutoff wall located between these two surface
water bodies. This groundwater investigation and the increase from quarterly to monthly groundwater monitoring
frequency in April of 2013 was triggered by an increasing trend in several analytes observed during the previously
approved groundwater monitoring plan.
The additional sampling and investigation indicate that the analytes in question have decreased from the levels
observed in late 2012 early 2013 prior to the investigation, and appear to pose no increased risk to the water quality of
Eagle Park Reservoir at this time. The Division concurs with the conclusions of the investigation, and as such
approves the request to return to a quarterly monitoring frequency and continuation of groundwater monitoring as
approved in the EPP Groundwater Monitoring Plan.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Eric C.
