We are essentially done with the trench in the larger
sense and I think there may just be some cleanup in the bottom of it to ensure un- restricted flow.
The monitoring wells have stabilized it appears and I measured them this morning. MW3 -AS is at 15.6ft.
and IVIH -9 is at 13.65 ft. below the top of the casing. On August 13th MW3 -AS was at 13.8 ft. and MH -9 was
at 8.21 ft. below the top of casing. MH -9 has dropped —5 ft. as it is directly adjacent to the trench and
reflects a drop in the water table from the entire length of the trench. MW3 -AS has dropped 2 ft. but only
reflects the effects of the south end of the trench. The current south end of the trench is about 275 ft.
north of MW3 -AS and so the drop in that well is not as dramatic.
However, what is critical is that the water level in Levi Kirby's basement has dropped to within % to 1 inch
of the bottom, of the sump pump well bore which is about 3 ft. deep from the top of the basement floor.
All the rain we have been having has not caused his water level to rise. It appears that the drop in the
monitoring well is very coincident with the drop in groundwater level at the Kirby residence at 2 -3 ft. As I
recall with the 2009 drain design, it would only take a minor drop in the water level at the head /south of
the drain to adequately and continually keep the water table at the Kirby residence below his basement
floor elevation. Kirby's home is about 600 ft. upgradient from MW3 -AS. I am having Lyle Gurley check the
water level in his well vault early next week as well.
I will get the T.R. to you with the weed control plan and details of the trench by the date requested or
very near to it. Thank you. Rob
From: O'Donnell - DNR, Tyler [ maIIto :tyler.odonnelI @state.co.us]
Sent: Monday, August 25, 2014 4:06 PM
[Quoted text hidden]
[Quoted text hidden]
