7/15/2014 State.co.us Executive Branch Mail -Trapper Mine; C -1981 -010; PR7, Baseline hydrologyinformation; request for assistance
fy STATE OF
i It
COLORADO
Ebert - DNR, Jared <jared.ebert @state.co.us> Mon, Jul 14, 2014 at 3:36 PM
To: Leigh Simmons - DNR <leigh.simmons @state.co.us>
Cc: David Berry - DNR <david.berry @state.co.us >, Alysha Hernandez - DNR <alysha.hernandez @state.co.us >,
Mary Rodriguez - DNR <mary.rodriguez @state.co.us>
Mr. Simmons,
As we have discussed, we are in the review period for Permit Revisions No. 7 for the Trapper Mine (C- 1981 -010).
Trapper is expanding their permit boundary by about 780 acres to the east and south east portion of their current
permit area. At this time, Trapper is not proposing to mine within the expansion area. Given this, they are
required to submit baseline ground water quality information required by Rule 2.04.7(1)(a). Section 2.7.5 of
Trapper permit contains the current baseline hydrology information. The Division has requested that Trapper
submit the information required by Rule 2.04.7(1)(a) for the proposed expansion area. On July 8, 2014 Trapper
submitted a response to the Division's request. Their response includes additional pages to be added to Section
2.7.5 of their permit that are intended to address the Division's request. These revised pages are attached.
Updated Maps M54, M54B and M54C show the water elevations /potentiometric surface information. I have extra
copies of these maps that I will bring to you. Also, Trapper submitted water quality tables from the wells in
question. This information is also attached.
As we discussed, Trapper is using existing wells within their current permit area that are near to the expansion
area to supply /extrapolate information required by the rule. According to Trapper, the current
descriptions /information about the aquifers contained in the permit text in section 2.7.5 can be applied to the
permit expansion area. I would like to request your assistance in reviewing the newly submitted pages attach to
determine if the information submitted meets the requirement of the above referenced rule and if it is appropriate
to extrapolate information to characterize the aquifers from existing wells that are not located in the expansion
area.
am required to issue a proposed decision by July 31St, 2014. If I could have your comments by July 28th, that
would be most helpful. If I can be of further assistance please feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Jared
Jared Ebert
https: / /mai l.g oog le.conVmai 1 /u /0 / ?ui =2 &i Ire29129fcb5 &viev-- pt &search =i nbox&th= 14736ce5874e376f &si ml= 14736ce5874e376f 1/2
