TO0/TfK / ATW MM23 M
STATE OF
COLORADO
Speer Mining Resource inspection
Kaldenbach - DNR, Tom <tom.kaldenbach@state.co.us> Tue, Jun 3, 2014 at 6:54 AM
To: Ikirby@horizonglass.net
Cc: Tyler O'Donnell - DNR<tyler.odonnelI@state.co.us>
Levi,
DRMS inspected Asphalt Specialities' Speer Mining Resource site yesterday afternoon. We traced the flow of
alluvial groundwater from the excavated trench that extends from the southeast part of the site (next to Brighton
Rd.) to the mine's pit lake, and from the lake to the South Platte Riker. Flow was evident along the entire path,
although it was only a small flow in the excavated trench. The mine cleared the ditch that extends from the pit
lake to the river yesterday morning. It will be a few days before we will know if the clearing of the ditch will affect
the groundwater level. We will be looking at the elevations on the site to try to determine what can be done to
lower the level of alluvial groundwater in the area.
Tom
Tom Kaldenbach
Senior Environmental Protection Specialist
COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
Phone (303) 866-3567 x 8128 1 Fax (303) 832-8106
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203
tom.kaldenbachCstate.co.us I http://mining.state.co.us
Levi Kirby <Ikirby@horizonglass.net> Tue, Jun 3, 2014 at 7:05 AM
To: "Kaldenbach - DNR, Tom" <tom.kaldenbach@state.co.us>
Cc: Tyler O'Donnell - DNR <tyler.odonnelI@state.co.us>, Lisa Gibbs <Iisagibbs@outlook.com>, "Levi
(leviguy76@aol.com)" <lev4guy76@aol.com>
Okay, thank you.
I am working outside of the office today—If you need to call I can be reached at 303-716-1974
