Climax Molybdenum
A Freeport- McMoRan Company
Sent by Certified Mail
May 6, 2014
Mr. Eric Scott
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St. Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Climax Mine
Highway 91 - Fremont Pass
Climax, CO 80429
Phone (719) 486 -7718
Fax (719) 486 -2251
RE: Use of Tunnel Material for Barge Dike Raise, Addendum to TR -21 Mayflower Flood
Bypass Tunnel and Mayflower TSF Reclaim Water System Modification
Dear Mr. Scott,
This letter and attachments are an addendum to Technical Revision (TR) 21 — Mayflower Flood
Bypass Tunnel and Mayflower TSF Reclaim Water System Modification. As part of its reclaim
water system described in TR -21, Climax constructed barges to pump process water from the
Mayflower Tailing Storage Facility (TSF). Climax will complete a Barge Dike Raise project in
2014 to increase the height of the protective berm needed to prevent damage to the barges from
wave action. Attached Drawing 820 -C -2002 shows the Barge Dike Raise, which consists of raising
the existing dike approximately 20 feet vertically using approximately 42,300 cubic yards of fill.
Attached Drawing 820 -C -2003 shows the locations of the Barge Dike and proposed borrow sources
for construction of the raise. We plan to potentially use up to approximately 30,000 cubic yards of
material from the Mayflower Tunnel muck pile at the southwest corner of the Mayflower TSF. We
also may use cap material from the 5 -Dam beach that needs to be removed prior to tailing placement,
as well as material from the nearby barge area laydown yard. Since these materials are already
incorporated into the Mayflower TSF footprint, we do not see any environmental or other concerns
with using this material.
Please accept this letter and attachments as an addendum to TR -21 for your files. Climax also will
maintain this information with our copies of TR -21.
Sincerely,
Raymond Lazuk
Environmental Manager
attachment
lk?c
D1Vi MAY 0 8 7014
S /pN
MiNjNGANps 4r /oN
ry
