CITY OP
Grand
)unction
C O L O R A D O
PUBLIC WORKS
& PLANNING
March 7, 2014
M IAR 1 ;, 2
GRAND JUNE -'TION FIE ., UFFICE
Mr. Travis Marshall DIVISION Of
Department of Natural Resources RECLAMATION MINING & SAFETY
101 South 3`d Street, Suite 301
Grand Junction, CO 81501
RE: Request for a Corrective Action Deadline Extension to June 2, 2014, for the Riverside Parkway
111c Permit Number M- 2007 -005
Dear Mr. Marshall,
The inspection report issued following your November 26, 2013 inspection requires that corrective
action be taken, specifically that the City shall submit a Technical Revision to update and clarify the
current approved reclamation plan. This is necessary because the current reclamation plan has failed
to establish adequate vegetation. The revision to the plan needs to identify how the City intends to
conduct reclamation of the site in a successful manner. The original deadline for this corrective action
was January 31, 2014. As I explained in my previous letter, we experienced a delay in receiving the
inspection report and we were unable to meet the January 31St deadline.
would like to request that an extension be granted to the corrective action deadline, moving it to
June 2, 2014. This would allow us sufficient time to prepare a researched and well planned revision to
our reclamation plan. As you know, reclamation at this site has proved challenging. The City intends
to enlist the help of a consultant that can apply their expertise to the development of a revised
reclamation plan. Please be assured that the City is committed to a successful reclamation of this site
and it is not our intention to delay the process. However, this additional time is necessary for the City
to be able to procure consultant services, conduct a field investigation with soil analysis, and prepare
recommendations for incorporation into the reclamation plan.
Thank you for your consideration of this request. Please feel free to contact me at (970) 244 -1542, or
Pauli @gicity.orf;.
Sincerely,
4 -
D.
