ASODA, AMERI CAN
L.L.P. David Valvoda
Plant Manager
2717 County Road 215 Telephone (970) 285 -6500
Parachute, CO 81635 Facsimile (970) 285 -6393
Tuesday, January 28, 2014
Mr. Travis Marshall
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Grand Junction Field Office
101 Third Street, Suite 310
Grand Junction, CO 81501
Dear Mr. Marshall:
ENV005.14
RECEIVED
JAN 2 9 2014
Division of Reclamation,
Mtninq & Safety
Enclosed is one bound copy of American Soda's 53rd Quarterly Report in compliance with Hard Rock
Mining Operation Permit No. M -99 -002. One unbound copy of the document will also be sent to the
Denver office of CDRMS to a atfF tention of Christine Brookshire for electronic scanning. These
documents include environmental ground water monitoring data collected and compiled during our fifty
third quarter of operations (December 2013). No solution mining activity occurred during the report
period.
The ground water data summary report is spiral bound as a non - confidential document and includes a
comparison of the 53rd operational quarter with baseline and operational general statistics prior to the
current reporting period. In addition, the tables provide information for comparison of Ground Water
Standards as provided in Regulation No. 41 and Numeric Protective Levels and Early Warning
Indicators as amended in TR -4.
Comparison of the data values with the Early Warning Indicators (EWI) and the Numeric Protective
Levels (NPL) indicates one data value above the calculated EWI during the report period. A dissolved
sodium value at one down - gradient alluvial well was reported above the EWI. This information is
summarized in the Executive Summary of the Ground Water Monitoring report.
In early fall 2013 all of the well field piping extending down the lateral leg to production well 28 -21 and
around the ridge to well 29 -22 from the main gathering line was removed. Any remaining well skids
and ancillary structures were also removed. All solution mining well strings on this lateral leg were
previously plugged and abandoned with the final one being completed in August 2012. In October
2013 the roads and well pads extending to well 28 -21 and well 29 -22 from the main well field access
road were re- contoured to natural grade and reclamation seeded in accordance with BLM
requirements.
Should you have any questions or comments regarding this information please contact me at (970)
285 -0428 or Celina Akin at (970) 285 -0406.
Natural Sodium Products For A Cleaner Environment
