9/9/13 State.co.us Executive Branch Mail - Fwd: Well and water issues at Southfield mine
Pueblo. Check the Colorado Division of Water Resources to see how it is done or call them.
Other than Dr Corley, you are the only permitted well in the area in close to the mine.
The only well that has been consistently tested for the last 30 years when EFCI started mining is Well 23- the
upslope monitoring well which is at 140 -150 feet and not in the ground water which the regs say it should be. It is
in one of the only areas that has not been undermined on our property and 650 feet from the Zenith mine (an old
mine that is on Dr Corley's property. They just tested it and the inspector from the DRMS was on site with
George Patterson EFCI employee. Since 2012 there has not been manganese in the well water. When the
mining company started mining at Southfield (we did not have a contract with EFCI to mine on our property)there
was high in manganese and iron, but in the 90's and later these metals were not there. So the water seemed to
clean up.
Thank you for filing an objection with the DRMS so they address it. Do you have a technical or scientific
background?
There are mitigation things that can be done, but you should not have to do them if you had a clean well before.
One is a reverse osmosis system that Dr Corley has at this house at the Corley. The other good source is the
North Dakota Extension at http://www.ag.ndsu edu /pubs /qual /watsys /ael03Ow.htm. They have several methods.
Also George states that the water flows Northwest. Which some does. But this year, the water in Newlin Creek
below you that I saw on May 15th was not from Newlin Creel because there wasn't any flow which is measured
above at the Florence Mountain Park where the City of Florence takes out their water for the water line in the
middle of CR 15 over to their water tank. The water was not coming from Magpie Creek either because it did not
have any flow. It was underground water which does not flow Northwest or a spring. Are you aware of a spring?
will drop by this information and 2012 water test results for MW 23 on Wednesday. Will you be home around
9:30.
Linea
Linda Saunders
https: / /mail.g oog le.conVmai I /u /0 / ?ui =2 &i Ire29129fcb5 &view= pt &search =i nbox&th= 1410336b2a8l5l99 2/2
