STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866 -3567
FAX: (303) 832 -8106
August 28, 2013
Basil R. Bear
Bowie Resources, LLC
P.O. Box 1488
Paonia, CO 81428
Re: Bowie No. 1 Mine (Permit No. C- 1981 -038)
2012 Annual Hydrology, Mine Inflow, and Subsidence Monitoring Reports
Dear Mr. Bear:
COLORADO
ID IV I S I O N O F
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pineda
Director
The Division has received and reviewed BRL's response to our comments on the annual reports for the
Bowie No. 1 Mine, and we have the following comments:
1. BRL provided the requested information to verify that BRL is not proposing to replace well B04, and
further stated that data from well B05 will continue to provide information on possible seepage in
the original grade material. BRL has also submitted Technical Revision No. 55, currently under
review, to remove B04 from the water monitoring plan. This response addresses our concern, but
we have an additional comment:
Please provide the information required by Rules 4.07.1 and 4.07.3 regarding permanent sealing
and documentation for well B04. We were also unable to locate sealing documentation for wells
801, 802, or 803, also damaged and no longer monitored. Please provide the same information
for these wells.
2. BRL provided laboratory analysis data for pond 10 -4, corrected the flow measurement for pond 88,
and indicated that ponds 85 and 87 were not sampled as required since the absence of anticipated
flow during the second quarter precluded monitoring. This response is accepted; sampling in prior
years was typically done in the second quarter and consistency in the timing of annual sampling is
beneficial for the purposes of comparison in identifying trends.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Susan L.
