8/26/13
'1.
COLORADO
1A
State.co.us Executive Branch Mail - Fv d: Gob Pile No. 3
Hi Alysha - Will you please put this in laserfiche?
C1996083
General Documents
Doc Type - Roads
Doc Name - Gob Pile 3 Certification Adequacy Review
Thanks!
Susan L. Burgmaier
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver CO 80203
303 - 866 -3567 x 8111
http://mining.state.co.us
H Susan,
reviewed the certification, and I do have a few comments.
Firstly, it proved to be a bit of a challenge to find the permit sections that address the haul road in question. Bits
of information are scattered about, but I eventually located Map 16 Haul Road Plan & Profile (Volume II), Typical
Cross Section Haul Road (Volume V Eng Dwg HR -1), and the haul road text (Volume I Pages 2.05 -31 and -32).
Gob Pile #3 itself is addressed in Volume M.
1. In the first paragraph, the stationing of the road is given as 0 +00, which it is on the Plan and Profile provided.
However, this stationing differs from what was used on Map 16, the approved design. A note should be added
following 0 +00, something such as "this equates to Station 4 +_ on Map 16 ".
2. The third paragraph addresses compaction of the subgrade materials and the road base. The Buckhorn test
sheets represent different levels of compaction and different test methods that what is shown in the certification.
The certification should be revised to show the following:
For Subgrade (native soil), the test method is ASTM D 698, ASTM D4718 Method A, and compaction was
required to be > 95 %.
For Class 6 Road Base, the test method is ASTM D1557 Method C, and compaction was required to be > 95 %.
https: / /mail.g oog le.conVmai I /u /0 / ?ui =2 &i Ire29129fcb5 &viev-- pt &search =i nbox&th= 140bae4f7c4e829e 1/3
