Susan Burgmaier
C- 1996 -083 / TR -80
20- Aug -2013
whether use of filter fabric is also proposed for this wide and tapering upper segment of the
drain. Please clarify whether a filter fabric is proposed for that portion of the system.
The first paragraph on Page 7 provides an estimate of the flow rate through the subdrain, and
argues that the cross section provided, together with a 4" perforated pipe, will have sufficient
flow capacity for any seepage that might occur from the Fire Mountain Canal. I concur with this
analysis, but I do have one comment: the text does not describe where the discharge from the
drain will go. Based on Map 21 -1, it appears that the drain pipe may outlet into ditch D -J3.
Please review, and revise the text to address this question.
4. On revised Map 21 -1 Sheet 1, a typical section of the proposed subdrain is provided in the lower
right -hand corner. Please provide a note indicating the type of material composing the rock
drain. (The text states it will be %" screened or washed rock.)
With this application, no revisions to Volume XI Figure 1 have been proposed. I would like to
request that the location of the subdrainage system be added to this map.
6. 1 have two additional comments regarding Volume XI Figure 1 of the permit:
a) In comparing the cross section lines shown in the plan view with the sections drawn, I
believe the letters need to be reversed on the map, i.e. D becomes D' and D' becomes
D. This switch also holds true for E -E' and F -F'.
b) The cross sections show the original ground surface and the proposed ground surface.
It is my understanding that excavation of topsoil and coverfill material was to take place
from within the footprint(s) of the pile(s). The limits of the excavation have not been
provided on this map, and should rightfully be incorporated.
This concludes my preliminary adequacy review of the TR -80 application. Please contact me with any
questions you may have.
