August 2013 5 103- 81640A
■ Descriptive USCS classification in accordance with ASTM D2488;
• Consistency of cohesive materials or apparent density of non - cohesive materials;
• Moisture content assessment, e.g., moist, wet, saturated, etc.;
• Color;
• Depositional type (alluvium, till, loess, etc.), if practical; AND
• Other descriptive features (bedding characteristics, mineralization /oxidation, organic
materials, macrostructure of fine - grained soils; e.g., root holes, fractures, etc.).
Rock sample descriptions include information such as:
• Rock type;
• Relative hardness;
• Density;
• Texture;
• Color;
■ Weathering;
■ Bedding;
■ Fractures, joints, bedding planes; AND
■ Mineralogy (e.g., observable pyrite, if present).
Natural gamma -ray logging of monitoring wells MW -5, MW -6, and the NQ corehole at MW -7 was
performed by Holcim and incorporated into the lithologic logs for these wells provided in Appendix A.
The drill rig and appropriate downhole equipment were decontaminated using a power steam pressure
washer before drilling, between boreholes and at the completion of drilling. Drill rod and sampler threads
were lubricated using Well -Guard Enviro Lube petroleum hydrocarbon -free lubricant to minimize the risk
of contamination. Water used for steam cleaning and all drilling operations, including the packer testing,
was obtained from the City of Fort Collins Utilities. A sample of this water was collected for laboratory
testing on December 29, 2012 and shipped to ACZ Laboratories on January 2, 2013 under chain -of-
custody protocol. The laboratory report and the chain -of- custody are included in Appendix B.
During drilling of the NQ rock corehole, packer testing was conducted to obtain values of hydraulic
conductivity at a shallow water - bearing zone, the sandstone /limestone contact (Carlile /Niobrara
formations), and along the screen zone proposed for monitoring well MW -7. Following advancement of
the boreholes, the two downgradient monitoring wells were installed to intercept groundwater at and
above the sandstone /limestone contact. The wells were completed and developed to obtain groundwater
samples.
944---tGolder
i \10 \81640a\ 0400\ gwcharwellinstallfieldrep_ 09aug13\ gwcharwellinstallfieldrep _09aug13 docx Associates
