8/12/13 State.co.us Executive Branch Mail -Re: Inspection reports for mines operated by New Elk Coal Company
the report until Monday August 19th.
Dan and I felt that it would be preferable to have the extra delay and ensure that everything is
complete, rather than rush to get the documents to you this week.
Hopefully you have a good idea of what sort of action items the report will contain, so that progress
can continue to be made on the ground.
Leigh
Leigh Simmons
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
303 866 3567 (8121)
On Thu, Aug 8, 2013 at 12:07 PM, Simmons - DNR, Leigh <1eigh.simmons@state.co.us> wrote:
Ron, Mark, Greg,
Thank you for taking the time to meet with Dan and myself during our visit to inspect the three
mines operated by New Elk Coal Company the week before last.
had intended to get the inspection reports to you some time ago, but there have been some
unexpected delays at our end.
Attached to this email are the inspection reports for Lorencito Canyon and Golden Eagle. The
report for New Elk should follow tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.
The same documents, as well as all previous inspection reports, permit documents, maps,
exhibits, monitoring reports, findings documents, citizens' complaints, etc. are scanned to our
database and will be available online.
If you wish to access them:
1. Click on the link to our website in the signature strip
2. Select "Imaged Document Data" from the "Reports & Data" dropdown menu
3. Click through two more links for "Imaged Document Data" to arrive at the Laserfich
Weblink homepage. (This is a portal to a large database, which should provide
comprehensive access to all relevant records for all permitted mining operations in the
state - it works well, but it is not flawless, and can be rather slow to load documents
through a slow internet connection)
4. To begin your search, you should first filter the results by permit number
• c1981012 - New Elk Mine
• c1981013 - Golden Eagle Mine
• c1996084 - Lorencito Canyon Mine
5. It is usually a good idea to select the document type from the "IBM Index Class Name"
dropdown, then filter the results further as you see fit.
While I am directing you to information, the law (Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act,
Revised 8/7/2006) and the regulations (Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
Board for Coal Mining, Revised 9/14/2005) under which we operate are also available from our
website, on the "Rules & Regs" page.
have tried to make the July inspection reports as detailed as possible, and have attached a
large number of photos which makes them very big documents (usually they will be smaller than
this). Although the pictures are rather small, they are high enough resolution that you can zoom
in on the screen for more detail. I can also forward you the original picture files if you need them.
https: / /mai l.g oog le.conVmai 1 /u /0 / ?ui =2 &i k=e29129fcb5 &view= pt &search =i nbox&th= 1406654816bl3f77 2/3
