STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866 -3567
FAX: (303) 832 -8106
August 8, 2013
William A. Bear
Bowie Resources, LLC
P.O. Box 483
Paonia, CO 81428
Re: Bowie No. 2 Mine (Permit No. C- 1996 -083)
Technical Revision No. 79 (TR- 79)
Material Storage Area Expansion
Dear Mr. Bear:
COLORADO
ID IV I S I O N O F
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pineda
Director
The Division has completed a preliminary adequacy review of the technical revision application (TR -79)
submitted by Bowie Resources, LLC (BRL) for the Bowie No. 2 Mine. The revision proposes to expand
the material storage area northeast of the B Seam Portals. We have the following comments and
questions regarding the application.
1. It would appear that revised watershed details for Ditch C -8, on page Exh -8 — 66 were inadvertently
omitted from the submittal, since the ditch and culvert information on pages EXH. 8 -29 and EXH -8 —
31 both indicate reduced runoff from this area and Map 21 -2 indicates that the contributing
watershed has been reduced. Please revise page Exh -8 — 66, the Ditch C -8 watershed information,
to be consistent with Map 21 -2 and the peak flows for Ditch C -8 and Culvert C -7 that are listed on
the tables on pages EXH. 8 -29 and EXH -8 — 31.
2. On page EXH -8 — 31, the contributing flow for Culvert C -G4 which receives drainage from Ditch D -5
was revised from 0.86 cfs to 0.00 cfs. It appears that this was in error, since ditch D -5 and Culvert C-
G4 should not be affected by the material storage expansion. Please further explain the change to
the culvert inflow or restore the information to the currently approved version (TR -76, November
2012).
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Susan L.
