STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866 -3567
FAX: (303) 832 -8106
August 8, 2013
William A. Box 483
Paonia, CO 81428
Re: Bowie No. 2 Mine (Permit No. C- 1996 -083)
June 2013 Discharge Monitoring Reports
Dear Mr. Bear:
COLORADO
ID I V I S I O N O F
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pineda
Director
The Division has received and reviewed BRL's June 2013 Discharge Monitoring Reports for the
Bowie No. 2 Mine; the DMRs are submitted to the Division monthly in accordance with Rule
4.05.13(2). The discharges reported for the ponds and sewage treatment plant were consistent
with Division observations of water levels and discharges, with two exceptions.
The DMR for Outfalls 003 (Pond D) and 004 (Pond F), indicate that there was no discharge from
either of these outfalls during the month of June. My June 25, 2013 inspection report notes
that both ponds were being cleaned at the time of the inspection. My recollection of our
conversation during the site inspection was that both ponds were dewatered prior to cleaning.
Further, the June 13, 2013 site report from J.E. Stover and Associates indicates that "Pond F has
been dewatered and sediment removal has begun." Please verify whether or not Ponds D and
F were discharged during the month of June.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Susan L.
