PERMIT #: M- 1991 -060
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: MAC
INSPECTION DATE: July 15, 2013
OBSERVATIONS
The inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division). John DeWitt, the Lincoln County Land Use Administrator, was also present for the inspection. The
Ravenkamp Pit No. 1 is located 10 miles south and 6 miles east of Hugo, Colorado. The site is permitted for 40
acres and the post- mining land use is rangeland.
The permit sign was posted at the site entrance and the boundary of the affected area was delineated by
monuments as required by Rule 3.1.12. A fence has been erected across the northern portion of the site; the
fence runs east to west and divides the active portion of the Operation from the small stock pond located in
the northeast corner of the site. The Division did not inspect the northern portion of the site which was fenced
off.
No mining was taking place during the inspection. The Ravenkamp Pit No. 1 is operated intermittently; sand
and gravel is mined when material is needed for road repairs. Active mining operations are taking place in the
southeast corner of the site. The Operator should be aware that in order to reclaim the pit walls to 3H:1V,
excavation should not proceed any further to the south or the east. The slope of the highwall along the south
and east perimeter of the site range between vertical and 2H:1V and are approximately 20 feet high. If the pit
is mined any further to the south or east, there will not be enough room to reduce the slope of the highwall
and the Operator would have to establish final grade of the slopes through backfilling.
The Division observed several stockpiles of rotomill material on the pit floor. The Operator received approval
to stockpile this material within the pit through Technical Revision No. 3. In addition, product stockpiles were
observed on the pit floor, east of the access road. Overburden has been stockpiled at the top of the pit slopes
and will be replaced during final reclamation. Topsoil has been stockpiled along the east perimeter of the pit;
the topsoil stockpile was stable and did not show any signs of erosion.
No problems or possible violations were observed. This concluded the inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
John DeWitt
Lincoln County
P.O. Box 39
Hugo, CO 80821
