Average species density was 27 9 species <br />per 100sq. m. <br />STEEP MOUNTAIN BRUSH EXTENDED REFERENCE AREA <br />(Photographs 29 -32) <br />Cover <br />(Table 6) <br />Native perennial cool season grasses and native shrubs were the predominant lifeforms observed <br />in the Steep Mountain Brush Reference Area, comprising 41 5 and 40.2 percent respectively of <br />total first -hit vegetation cover. Of this, bluebunch wheatgrass (Pseudoroegnena splcata ssp. <br />spicata) comprised 26.6 percent, big sagebrush comprised 11 2 percent, Saskatoon serviceberry <br />(Amelanchier alnifolla) comprised 9.8 percent and birchleaf mountain mahogany (Cercocarpus <br />montanus) comprised 9.3 percent. Also observed in the area was the noxious weed dalmatian <br />tcadflax (Linana genistifolia ssp. dalmatica) <br />Total average vegetation cover for first hits was 32 1 percent.
