Bowie No. 2 TR -76 Expansion area. notes for site visit June 4. 2013:
Bench #2, (see map shown on page 2) between terrace ditches F5 and F2 is
currently being worked and is getting closer to grade. Bill's truck was parked in
the ditch F2 area as a point of reference in some of the photos. Compaction
testing was scheduled for today for the ditch F2 area (upper bench #2). Material
has been placed and was being worked in the lower bench #3 area between
ditches F2 and F12. Old ditches F20 and F11 and F14 are still in place and
drainage from the terraces is currently being graded so it will be directed to
those ditches.
Riprap from existing ditch F20 and F11 will be removed and stockpiled for future
use before adding material to the TR -76 expansion area.
Sediment poles approved with TR -76 have been installed in Pond F. Pond F is
currently being dewatered so the sediment can dry enough for equipment to get
in and clean the material out. The extension to Upper Diversion Ditch #1 has
been surveyed and staked and it is anticipated it will be cut in before June 15.
Ditches F5, F6 and F17 are scheduled to be surveyed in order to demonstrate
positive drainage for compliance with NOV abatement item number 2.
Bill and Dewey have a meeting with Air Quality next Tuesday to discuss the
permit for Gob Pile #3.
TR -76 Phasing Plan:
It would be helpful to have a copy of Map21 -1 handy while reading this section.
Area number 1, which corresponds to about the middle of bench #4 as shown on
page 2, is the road between gob piles #2 and #4, but is no longer passable due to
recently placed gob. The plan to work the TR -76 expansion area will be two fold;
1) continue placing and working material in the bench #3 area and 2) start
placing and working material in the bench #4 area, beginning at the old road
between the two piles. As shown on the profile on page 3 of this report, the
bench #4 area has an approximately 88' horizontal area available for gob
placement which creates a small flat area to dry and work the gob. While placing
gob in the bench #4 area, work will continue bringing bench #3 up to grade and
will eventually tie into the bench #4 area.
The ditch locations shown on the aerial photo are approximate and based on the
final gob pile configuration.
The goal is to have positive drainage off of the pile, with an understanding that
the pile is a work in progress and will be continually evolving. As expeditiously as
possible, high points will be established to direct drainage off of the fill to F21 or,
in the interim, as ditches F12, F3 and F1 are created, flow will be directed to the
haul road and allowed to flow down the haul road ditch, to Culvert F2, to Ditch
F7 and into Pond F. The flow path for ditches F20, F19, F18, F12, F3 and F1 will
be continually changing as the pile evolves, but every effort will be taken to
direct drainage off of the fill.
