Section 2.05.3(3)
Mine Facilities
Introduction
This section contains a description of the proposed structures to be used in connection with or to
facilitate the surface coal mining and reclamation activities at the New Horizon North (NHN)
Mine area described in Section 2.05.3, Operation Plan: Permit Area.
Support Facilities
Buildings. Proposed buildings include a 60'x90' steel building structure to be used as a shop, a
24'x70' mobile building to be used as the mine office, a 20'x40' mobile building to be used as a
bath house, a 14'x40' mobile building to be used as a foreman's office, a 24'x70' steel building
for use as a warehouse and hose room, three 8'x20' steel cargo containers to be used for
warehousing and parts storage, and a fuel and lube oil storage and pump facility consisting of
storage vessels contained inside a lined earthen berm that will contain the volume from the
largest vessel plus the l0yr -24hr rainfall event. all located at the NI-IN Mine facilities area. Map
2.05.3(3) -1 Facilities Map shows the locations of the buildings.
Details of sizes and types of construction for all buildings are shown in Table 2.05.3(3) -1.
Waste Water. Sewage from the proposed buildings will be disposed of through proposed septic
sewage disposal system. Waste water from the equipment wash will be re- circulated and reused;
however, if there is any excess waste water, it will be run through a sediment trap and an oil
water separator and discharged to Pond NHN -001 via a natural drainage and the NHN -001 East
Ditch.
Dewatering System. Appendix 2.05.6(3) -4 contains State Engineer approved permits for three
dewatering wells adjacent to the initial boxcut excavation in the backfill. The wells are 85ft., 65
ft. and 85 ft. deep respectively. The dewatering system holes are initially drilled with a 6 -3/4"
tri -cone bit then air lift tested to determine if enough water is present to warrant installing a
pump. If sufficient water is present the hole is reamed with an 8 -3/4" tri -cone bit and cased with
Schedule 40 PVC pipe. The bottom 20' screen section of the casing is mill slotted 6" PVC. The
entire hole is gravel packed and a pump is installed, and the top 10' of the hole is filled with
Sakrete. Electricity for the pump or pumps is provided by a portable generator. These wells are
temporary. The holes will be reclaimed after they have served their purpose, the pumps
removed, the holes filled with granular bentonite to within 10 feet of surface, concreted 10' to
the surface, and reclaimed in cycle with the surface reclamation of the pit.
Section 2.05.3(3) Page 1 July 2013 (MR 07)
