According to
Mr.Fry,this occurred after vegetation sampling was conducted in the pasture area. The southern half of the field
was being irrigated. The northern half does not appear to have been irrigated recently and the area was fairly dry.
The irrigated pasture south of 5th Avenue was not being irrigated at the time of the inspection. Mr.Fry indicated
the pump on the side role system was broken but had been fixed earlier that day and that irrigation would start
again soon in this pasture. The area was harvested for hay this spring after vegetation sampling occurred
according to Mr.Fry.
The dryland pasture north of 5th Avenue was walked. Cover is fairly sparse with what appears to be rye and
wheatgrasses primarily. Deer and elk sign was observed throughout this parcel. According to Mr.Fry this area is
heavily utilized by these species during the winter. Russian Thistle was observed throughout the area. White top
was observed in several areas of this pasture but it appears to have been treated with a herbicide. Several
Tamarisk trees were observed near the drainage in this pasture.
The irrigated pasture north of 5th Avenue, west of 2700 Road and South of BB road was observed. This pasture
was being irrigated at the time of inspection with side roles. It has been very dry this year in the Nucla area
according to Mr.Fry. This pasture was dry in spots. This pasture was harvested for hay this spring after
vegetation sampling occurred. A parcel of land within this pasture was leveled and seeded in 2007. This parcel is
depicted on the 2007 Reseeding and Rodent Management areas map. This area is dominated by pasture grasses
and generally has less alfalfa established than the surrounding pasture in the southern reaches of the parcel.
The 2012 seeding map submitted with the 2012 Annual Reclamation Report depicts the areas that have been
seeded and the year they were seeded. The 2012 dryland pasture area that was seeded was dominated by Russian
thistle and the cover crop. It does not appear the desired vegetation has germinated this year.
The 2011 seeding area was walked and the area is dominated by crested wheatgrass and other wheatgrasses. The
2009 dryland pasture area was dominated by salt brush and crested wheatgrass.
An irrigated pasture area has been planted this year south of the Pond 012.
