Lincoln County
Land Use Office
P.O. Box 39
Hugo, Colorado 80821
July 9, 2013
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
c/o Michael Cunningham
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
0
Re: Hoffman Pit (M- 2005 - ,144) "112" expansion
Michael:
Ph. 719 - 743 -2337
Fax 719- 743 -2815
RECEIVED
JUI 1 1 2013
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
I am writing to inform you of Lincoln County's intent to expand the Hoffman pit to a 112
status. There is one complication, however, that I need to make your office aware of
Internally, this expansion was proposed in Summer of 2011. The new boundary markers
were set in 2012, and the rest of the expansion process was assumed by all to be moving
forward, and in fact, completed. When I received the renewal notice this year, I sat down
with that districts' road boss to review the accuracy of the pit map. He was shocked to
find that the Hoffman was still a 110 pit. It was then I learned that because of the
assumption surrounding the expansion, road crews had proceeded to mine Eastward,
crossing the existing boundary markers. Apparently, due to the lay of the land, the road
boss wasn't sure the extent of the intrusion. Normally, a pit expansion is a reasonably
straight forward process, but because of this complication, I feel it is wise to get DRMS
consultation on how to proceed. We still intend to file a 112 expansion request with your
office. I await your advice on how to proceed. I apologize for any problems this may
have created, and thank you for any help and advice you can give.
Sincerely yours,
X' `
IV
John DeWitt
Land Use Administrator
Lincoln County
