PERMIT #: M- 2009 -027
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: TOD
INSPECTION DATE: June 20, 2013
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal routine monitoring inspection conducted by Tyler O'Donnell of the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety (Division). There was no representative present from The Walsenburg Sand and Gravel
Company during the inspection. The Division spoke with a representative from the company and received
permission to inspect the site without a representative of the company present. The WSG - Hribar Pit is located
approximately 10 miles northwest of Walsenburg Colorado. The WSG - Hribar Pit is permitted as a sand and
gravel pit. The approved permit area is 9.99 acres. The approved post- mining land use is rangeland.
The sky was clear and the ground was dry. The site was operational during the inspection. The mining
operation appears to be progressing from north to south. There were multiple product stockpiles along the
northern edge of the permit boundary.
Backfilling and Grading:
No backfilling and grading has been conducted on the site.
Hydrologic Balance:
The pit excavation is located on a gravely terrace just south of the Huerfano River. The bottom of the pit was
dry. There was no evidence of excessive erosion. There appeared to be no significant impacts to the
prevailing hydrologic balance.
Gen. Compliance With Mine Plan:
The operation appeared to be following the approved mine plan.
Roads:
The access road was in good condition.
Reclamation Success:
This site has not yet been reclaimed.
Erosion /Sedimentation:
There was no evidence of excessive erosion (rills, gullies, or sediment fans).
Signs and Markers:
A mine I.D. sign was located at the entrance to the mine site. The permit boundaries were not clearly marked.
This will be cited as a problem in this inspection report and will require corrective action.
