West Elk Mine 2012 Annual Hydrology Report <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br />This Mountain Coal Company, LLC (MCC) West Elk Mine 2012 Annual Hydrology <br />Report (AHR) summarizes the hydrologic monitoring activities and pertinent data <br />associated with the West Elk Mine mining operations for the Water Year 2012 (WY <br />2012), October 1, 2011 through September 30, 2012, in accordance with the Colorado <br />Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (CDRMS) Permit C -1980 -007. <br />1.1 Overview of Mining Operations <br />The West Elk Mine is an underground coal mining operation that produces bituminous <br />coal and conducts other mining activities including surface crushing, washing, <br />conveying, and load -out operations. MCC has utilized two chemicals in their treatment <br />process: aluminum sulfate for flocculation in sedimentation ponds and sodium <br />hypochlorite for drinking water treatment. <br />During WY 2012, mining was completed in the E -seam longwall panel E3 from crosscut <br />69 up to crosscut 12. Development mining was completed in the E4 headgate from <br />crosscut 53 to crosscut 76, and the E5 headgate from crosscut l to 30. The E -South <br />Mains to crosscut 79 and the turn -ins for the longwall panel E6 gateroads were also <br />completed. There was no mining in the B -seam in WY 2012 (MCC, 2013). <br />June 2013 HydroGeo, Inc. <br />
