The legal description is Lot 4 <br />of the SW /4 N /W4 subdivision of Union Colony. Section 4, Township 5N. R65W. <br />In 1994 we purchased 20 acres at the above address. At that time and until just <br />recently, there was a pond, complete with cat tails and families of geese and ducks. This <br />pond was labeled "pond wetland" by the county and the Army Corps of Engineers as <br />shown on the attached plat plan. This shows how the storm drainage comes from the <br />north of the property, thru the pond and on down the storm water drainage ditch. Each <br />year as the water table came up; the pond would fill up and then drain out in the fall and <br />winter. <br />Our problem: The owners of the land to east of us have opened a gravel mining <br />operation and it appears that they have filled in the natural drainage ditch which drained <br />the water from our area in cases of flooding and overflow. They are pumping the water <br />from the mine area. The pond is not our only concern however. We also have a <br />permitted well that we use to water our lawn, trees and immediate area, not an acre (not <br />quite an acre). We are concerned that if the mining company continues to drain the water <br />from our land, and the pond, (which is already dry) our well will also go dry. <br />The previous owners of the mining company were more neighborly. They made sure <br />our pond had water. When the pond filled to a certain level, the water ran out to a pipe <br />and on down the drainage ditch. NO PROBLEM! <br />We need your help to restore our pond, and the water well. Please help preserve our <br />wetland, wildlife habitat, trees and garden, etc. It was never a problem for the previous <br />mining operation to maintain our ground water level. We see no reason why it should be <br />a problem now. Please help us by doing whatever is necessary to restore our water. <br />Sincerely, <br />Larry and Lois Monroe <br />
