Site Description <br />BLM Burnt Shale Pit <br />The Pit site is on the NW side of State Hwy 139, 20 miles north of Loma, Colorado. The area surrounding <br />the pit is rangeland with natural vegetation. The site had native vegetation that was stripped from the <br />area and stockpiled for use in reclaiming the disturbed areas of the pit. The material is mainly soil and <br />sandstone. <br />
