Collom Area Geology Pre - Feasibility Report
The Collom Exploration Team prepared a preliminary "Estimated Quality
Specifications" for the KEC marketing group based upon the 2004 Exploration
Program coal quality data, see Table 4.3. This specification sheet was
compiled from drill hole data including seams X3 through GB.
4.2 Pre -2004 Collom Exploration
Prior to the 2004 Exploration program, the Collom Exploration Team
compiled a detailed list of the available geological, environmental,
geotechnical and mining reports and data for the Collom area, see Appendix
E. Most of this information exists as written documents currently located in
the Lower Administration building at the Colowyo Mine. However, these data
contain extensive information about the historical work performed within the
Collom Resource Area.
Numerous companies explored the Collom Resource Area since the late
1970's. Utah International, Inc. (UII), the United States Geological Survey,
W. R. Grace Company, Mobil Oil, and Kennecott Energy Company drilled
holes prior to the 2004 Exploration Program.
Prior to Colowyo, UII drilled approximately 53 holes in Sections 35 and 36,
T4N, R94W around 1980. Colowyo currently controls the coal leases in these
sections. UII seriously considered mining these sections and performed
extensive baseline environmental work. Much of this baseline information is
outlined in Appendix E.
In 1995 and 1996, Colowyo performed a regional exploration program on
unleased federal coal throughout the Collom Resource Area. Details of these
investigations reside in the report "Geologic Correlation, Interpretation, and
Delineation (GEOCID) Project ", Glenn E. Miller, Inc., 1998.
August 2005 Page 15 of 38
