Historic Properties Treatment Plan, Collom Mine, Colorado
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This document presents a historic properties treatment plan for four prehistoric archaeological
sites located within leased land for the proposed Colowyo Collom Mine Expansion Project. The
four sites included in this plan - -Sites 5MF969, 5MF3996, 5MF4003, and 5MF6098- -are in
Moffat County, Colorado, on lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM),
Craig Field Office (Figure 1.1). Topographic maps showing the location of the four sites are
included in Appendix A.
These four sites were investigated as part of a Class III cultural resource inventory (TRC Mariah
Associates Inc. [TRC Mariah] 2006). A total of 9,452 acres was inventoried with 10,838 acres
previously inventoried within the permit boundary. Seventy -three newly recorded sites were
found and 51 previously recorded sites were inspected. In addition, 69 isolated finds were
recorded.
Of the newly recorded sites, 64 are recommended as not eligible to the National Register of
Historic Places (NRHP), five sites contain rock cairns and are unevaluated pending Native
American consultation, three sites need further data for an eligibility recommendation and
one site (presented in this report) is recommended as eligible to the NRHP. Of the 51 previously
recorded sites, four are potentially eligible to the NRHP (with three of the sites presented in this
report), five previously recorded sites need further dates for an eligibility recommendation and
42 sites are not eligible to the NRHP.
At the request of Colowyo Mining Company and Maxim Technologies, this plan was submitted
to the BLM for Sites 5MF969, 5MF3996, 5MF4003, and 5MF6098. The five remaining sites
that require further data include Sites 5MF1652, 5MF4010, 5MF6120, 5MF6126, and 5MF6130
but are all currently outside of the proposed permit boundary and will not be impacted by project
activities.
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
