Class 111 Inventory, Colowyo's Collorn Mine Project 51
Figure 6.13 Overview of Site 5MF6064, Looking North (Taken by Beth Karpinski, 8/15/05).
The four groundstone tools consist of two manos and two metates. Mano 1 is the medial portion of
a heat - crazed quartzite cobble that measures 7.2P x 10.0 x 5.1 em and is bifacially ground. Mano 2
is a complete unifacially ground quartzite cobble that measures 8.3 x 8.2 x 4.9 cm. Metate 1 is a
complete sandstone slab that measures 41.9 x 27.0 x 7.5 cm (Figure 6.14). Both faces exhibit
grinding. No pecking was noted. Metate 2 is made of two refittable pieces that were located
approximately 8 m apart. Together, the fragments measure 52.3 x 32.7x 10.5 cm. The metate was
unifacially ground and deeply dished.
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect: Site 5MF6064 is recommended as not
eligible for listing on the NRHP when evaluated under Criterion D. Although the site consists of a
large and diverse artifact assemblage, it lacks dateable cultural features and temporally diagnostic
artifacts. The surface manifestation suggests that the site also lacks integrity of location as the
majority of the cultural remains are eroding downslope and are not in primary context.
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
