RULE 2 PERMITS
are distributed sufficiently to meet this criterion for the Collom Lite pit with some coverage for the Little
Collom X pit.
Overburden and interburden samples from drill holes 97 -06, 97 -09, 97 -15, 99 -02, 99 -04, 99 -09, 00 -03,
and 00 -08 were collected from cuttings obtained during the drilling of each hole. The holes were drilled
with air. When a water source was encountered during drilling, water was injected to help flush the
cuttings from the holes. This continued until cuttings were no longer obtainable.
Overburden samples from drill holes C- 04 -04, C- 04 -14, C- 04 -25, C- 04 -36, C- 05 -26, and C -05 -32 were
obtained from core samples. Drilling depths ranged from ground surface to between approximately 450
feet and 818 feet in depth. Samples were collected from intervals based on the material properties such as
color and texture or were collected at regular predefined intervals. Sample intervals ranged from
approximately one foot to 15 feet and averaged 5 feet. A total of 619 discrete samples were collected and
analyzed to characterize approximately 4,212 feet of overburden. Coal seams within the drill holes were
also analyzed but are not included in this section because coal will not be used as reclamation material.
The following analyses and sample preparation were performed on overburden and coal samples:
Physicochemical Analysis and Methods
• pH, sat paste
• Electrical Conductivity @ 25 C
• Saturation
• Texture
• Ca (sat paste)
• Mg (sat paste)
• Na (sat paste)
• SAR
• Cation Exchange Capacity
• Exchangeable Na
• Exchangeable Sodium percent
• Se (hot water)
• B (hot water)
• NO2 -NO3 (paste)
• Mo (NH4 oxalate)
• As, Hg, Pb, Zn, Fe, and Mn
(AB -DTPA Extractable)
• NP as CaCO3
• Total Sulfur
• Sulfur Forms in percent
• Acid Generation Potential (AGP),
Acid Neutralization Potential (ANP)
and Acid Base Potential (ABP)
• AGP:ANP
Sample Preparation Methods
• Air Dry @ 34° C
USDA No.60 (21A)
EPA Method M120.1- meter,w /sat paste
USDA No. 60 (2)
ASTM D 422 Hydrometer
EPA Method M6010 ICP
EPA Method M6010 ICP
EPA Method M6010 ICP
calculation
NH4Oac, USDA No. 60 (19)
NH4Oac extractable, M6010B ICP
Exchangeable Na/CEC
SM3500 -Se.0
EPA Method M6010 ICP
EPA Method M353.2- automated
EPA Method M6010 ICP
EPA Method M6010 ICP
EPA Method M600/2 -78 -054 3.2.3
EPA Method M600/2 -78 -054 3.2.4
EPA Method M600/2 -78 -054 1.3
calculation
USDA No. 1, 1972
Collom — Rule 2, Page 31 Revision Date: 9/28/11
Revision No.: PR -03
