Martin Marietta Materials
Spec -Agg 2013 Annual Report
discussed above, joint set P -7 represents a new representative discontinuity orientation based on a relatively
tight clustering of joint measurements centered in a distinct orientation not well represented by the previously
recognized sets.
Representative discontinuity orientations used for this annual report are shown in Figure 7 and summarized
in Table 1 below. Joint set P -4 was observed in the Main Pit during our recent site visits, but not in the
Southern Expansion Area. Likewise joint set P -6 was observed in the Southern Expansion Area, but not in
the Main Pit. We have tailored our kinematic analyses to these observations, such that joint sets that were
not observed in a particular area are not considered in kinematic analyses for walls that line those areas.
6.2
Table 1: Representative Discontinuity Orientations
Discontinuity Set
Representative Orientation (Dip /Dip Direction)
2012 Annual Report
2013 Annual Report
F -1 (Foliation)
33 0/1700
43 0/1820
F -2 (Foliation)
24 0/1980
13 0/224°
F -3 (Foliation)
36 0/2940
Not observed
P -1 (Joint)
74 0/1720
74 0/1720 (unchanged)
P -2 (Joint)
62 0/0950
55 0/0840
P -3 (Joint)
67 0/2550
510/2640
P -4 (Joint)
72 °/296°
67 °/301 ° (Main Pit)
P -5 (Joint)
67 °/353°
Not observed
P -6 (Joint)
57 0/0250
66 °/051 ° (SEA)"
P -7 (Joint)
Not differentiated
55 0/2130
" SEA = Southern Expansion Area
Slope Geometry
Wall orientations used in this report are based on the mine plan developed by Martin Marietta (formerly
Lafarge West, Inc.) in December, 2003 (Figure 2). We used the same wall orientations for our analyses that
have been used since the 2003 report; however, we added several additional wall orientations and modified
the wall designations slightly. The new and former wall designations, slope angles, and slope dip directions
used to represent the final quarry walls are presented in Table 2 below.
April 22, 2013 Page 10 Lachel & Associates, Inc.
Project 12361005 00 ©2013 All Rights Reserved
