It is presumed that studies presenting only herbaceous plant cover
eliminated any cover due to woody taxa. Studies that present total plant cover include both herbaceous and woody plant
cover (typically below a level of about 1.5 meters). In these cases, herbaceous cover can be segregated from woody
cover (with the exception of Harner's 1985 data set). Hamer's data were reported in a manner that does not allow
isolation of 1st hit vs. 2nd hit data. Discussion with Harner in 2007 confirmed that it is not possible to separate these two
data components without the raw data sheets which have long since been recycled.
Revision Date: 3/30/07
Revision No.: PR-02
