• The above introduced species have been included in the mixes to enhance the forage utility of the <br />revegetated lands, improve the legume presence in the stand, benefit wildlife habitat, ensure sufficient <br />types of species are present to cover a range of site conditions, and provide adequate vegetation cover <br />on more adverse sites. These species, as well as all natives in the mixes, are compatible with the plant <br />and animal species of the region and are not poisonous or noxious. The species are desirable and <br />necessary to achieve the approved postmining land use. The introduced species proposed have been <br />developed for, or used in, a variety of agronomic situations in the western U.S. for many years and are <br />well documented in the technical literature. <br />Seeding and Planting Methods. Seeding of the permanent seed mixes will be completed by the first <br />fall seeding season after topsoil distribution. At the nearby Seneca H Mine, seeding has been done as <br />early as late August with no winterkill problems. This is due to the insulating affects of heavy snow <br />cover. Cover crops may be seeded at any time from late spring to the fall seeding season to provide <br />interim stabilization as necessary. The normal seeding season will run from August 15 to <br />approximately November 1. Weather conditions may require earlier termination of the fall seeding <br />season. Spring weather conditions severely limit the opportunities for seeding of the permanent <br />mixes. The month of May will be the only consistent period available for spring seeding. All spring <br />seeding activities will be completed by June 15th. Any transplanting, interseeding, or reseeding of <br />permanent reclamation will be accomplished concurrent with the regular planting season. <br />Seeding will be accomplished by drill seeding, broadcast seeding, or hydroseeding. Drill seeding is the <br />preferred method and will be employed on the majority of reclaimed areas. A rangeland type drill <br />equipped with two seed boxes will be used for all drill seeding. This type of drill is capable of <br />handling the rough surface conditions common in re- topsoiled areas and can be operated on relatively <br />steep terrain. All drill seeding operations will be done on the contour unless steep slopes restrict <br />operations to.up and down the slope for safety reasons. <br />Broadcast seeding will be carried out in areas where drill- seeding operations would be restricted, <br />including riprapped drainage channels and steep slopes that have been roughened by dozer or track - <br />hoe gouging. Broadcast seeding will also be used in concentrated shrub seeding areas. A Cyclone <br />type seeder or EZ Flow seeder will be used for broadcast seeding operations. Broadcast seeding rates, <br />where not specifically noted, will be approximately double the drill seeding rates. Mountain big <br />. sagebrush will be broadcast or dribble seeded over the remaining acres requiring Seedmix 1A <br />(following approval of PR -02) at a minimum rate of 0.25 lbs per acre. <br />PR -02 22 Revised 01/06 <br />
