Introduction
The information assembled in this 2012 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR)
includes data collected from all water monitoring sites at Hayden Gulch
Terminal, LLC (HGT) Hayden Gulch Loadout ( CDRMS Permit C -92 -081) for the
calendar year 2012. Locations of water monitoring sites can be found in
Figure 1 (Appendix A).
In 2011, the tipple was scrapped. Topsoiling and reseeding of the tipple
and coal storage areas were also completed in 2011. The office area and
the rail line were left in place.
The Tie - Across Haul Road (formerly associated with the Seneca II -W Mine,
CDRMS Permit C--82-057) was transferred to the Hayden Gulch Terminal on
January 4, 2012.
Meteorological Data
No meteorological data is collected at the Loadout. Data from the
National Climatic Data Center's Hayden Station is used here to evaluate
the precipitation trend. These data are provided in Appendix Al of the
previously submitted Seneca II Mine 2012 AHR. For this year, 12.80
inches of precipitation was measured, which is 4.54 inches (26%) below
the 1971 -2000 average, 17.34 inches. All months except November,
February, July and September were below average. Snowpack runoff, as
estimated by totaling November through March precipitation values, was
5.35 inches, which was 1.83 inches (26 %) below the 1971 -2000 average,
7.18 inches.
Water Sampling and Measurement Techniques
Field conductivity and pH meters were calibrated prior to each days use.
The conductivity meter is calibrated using a potassium chloride solution
with an electrical conductivity in the 1,000 to 4,000 umhos /cm range.
The pH meter is calibrated using NBS traceable buffers with pH values of
7 and 10. Water level measurements are taken with a water level
indicator or directly from a steel tape.
1
