Binns, Janet
From: Binns, Janet
Sent: Friday, July 29, 2011 3:39 PM
To: Linda Saunders
Cc: Paula Coulter (paulacoulter @comcast.net)
Subject: Request for a copy of Revised Permit pp2.05.4 -27 in connection with Minor Revision 48
Hello Linda,
I have been out of the office most of this week, so I have not been able to respond to your earlier e-mail yet.
I will try to answer some of your questions here and locate MR48. And yes, I am aware that sometimes it is challenging
to return the information one is looking for in our database. That is something that has been discussed internally many
times.
Section 2.05.4 of the Southfield permit contains the approved reclamation standards.
Page 2.05.4 -27a states that, Conventional statistical methods will be used to evaluate woody plant densities on
reclaimed areas within the Mine area and for both vegetation reference areas. Woody plant density for seeded areas
and the reference area will be measured using 50m x1m belt transect along the same transect lines. This data will be
combined with direct count woody plant density data for the shrub clump using a weighted average approach. If the
absolute value of woody plant density for the reclaimed areas is greater than or equal to that of the reference area or
revised woody plant count (grassland type) for the 90 percent confidence interval, then revegetation will be deemed
adequate relative to woody plant density."
I have not had the opportunity to research the "revised woody plant count" meaning.
Map 16 shows the location of the approved reference areas. "Reference plot A" is what is also referred to s the
grassland reference area. It is located north of the Coal Refuse Area. "Reference Plot B" is located just north of the
Vento Mine building, east of the Coal Refuse Area.
The operator has not submitted a bond release for the reclaimed areas so I do not know when they intend to do so. I
am still researching the rest of your questions.
What time do you wish to meet on Thursday, August 4tn.
jawet H.
Environmental Protection Specialist II
Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
phone: (303) 866 -3567 ext. 8107
fax: (303) 832 -8106
From: Linda Saunders [mailto:saunders615Cablive.com]
Sent: Friday, July 29, 20112:01 PM
To: Binns, Janet
Subject: Respinse to questions before Thursday's meeting and Request for a copy of Revised Permit pp2.05.4 -27 in
connection with Minor Revision 48
My sister and I have spent 2 -3 hours trying to access this Revised Permit and Minor Revision 48.
I need a copy of it emailed to me before our meeting on Thursday.
Because of the way your system is set up, we would have to know the date of the Revision. We searched every year
under Revisions, Permits, and Revegetation.
